After waiting for what seem like a thousand days, thanks in part to the fact that Nigeria failed to perform well at the world cup, Finally, the English Premier League resumed over the week end.
In a classic Joshua manner, I refused to watch all the matches except the one played by my darling Liverpool (YNWA). But then I did monitored scores from other matches, and was super excited to hear that Manchester United had gone behind by one goal. It got better when I learnt they did lost the match 2-1.
I think this gives Coach Van Gaal a rude awakening, as he suddenly realizes that Pre-Seasons and League matches are a world apart. They might be relative and comparative and indicative or what ever word the analyst like to use in describing it, but they are a world apart. Now he has to buckle up, dip into the transfer fund and buy his much needed players.
In the meantime, David Moyes must be having the laugh of his life, or he might be displeased, because the one record he failed to break at Manchester United got broken by Van Gaal. “Manchester United lost an League Opener for the first time in a very long time.” Meanwhile the fans are wondering if their nightmare continues or this will bring about a change in fortune.
One thing for sure, life without Ryan Giggs on the pitch is going to be different for Manchester United, and hopefully, Wayne Rooney can be good enough to carry the team all the way.
Elsewhere, Life without Luis Suarez finally begun at Anfield. Liverpool hosted Southampton without Luis Suarez, while Southampton had to begin a season against a team that had picked one of their key players from every main position, leaving out the goal keeper. Rickie Lambert got his Anfield Debut over twenty years after being released by the club, giving a lot of local kids a chance to dream of a return to their lifetime dream club, even if they get rejected today.
Despite losing lots of players, especially to Liverpool, Southampton did manage to put up not just a decent display, but they had a very impressive performance. Holding out Liverpool attacks, and putting Liverpool under intense pressure, especially towards the end of the match.
After such a winning start, hopefully Liverpool go on to take that extra step they failed to take last season, and prove to everyone they are not be a one man club (Luis Suarez), but they can reward a One Club Man in Steven Gerard, while every kid can go on to dream of a fairy tale ending, like a League Winning Home Coming in Rickie Lambart.
